Serious Security Issue Identified in Leading Minecraft Server Hosting Provider

Reports suggest that Shockbyte, a leading Minecraft server hosting provider, has experienced a leaked access to its website source code, which potentially puts gamers at risk.

Shockbyte, an Australian company generating annual revenues up to $10 million, offers hosting services for popular games like Minecraft, Counter-Strike, and Assetto Corsa.

According to the research team at Cybernews, the private repository location of the website’s source code, along with Shockbyte’s Git index file and credentials, have all been compromised.

Minecraft Server Provider Leaked Source Code

Cybernews warns that attackers exploiting this vulnerability could not only manipulate Shockbyte’s website but also gain access to the game servers they host, thereby directly impacting gamers by manipulating the code running on Minecraft servers.

There are also concerns that attackers may modify the code to steal payment information or install malware.

Although the leaked token was already expired, attackers can still use this and other leaked information to understand how the website functions, potentially gaining access during future updates.

Shockbyte has informed Cybernews that they have taken steps to address the issue of the mistakenly deployed .git directories. However, they have not responded to TechRadar Pro’s request for comment regarding the cause of the incident and the measures being implemented to protect customers and prevent future attacks.

Cybernews emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the security and privacy of users, especially given the rapid growth of the gaming industry and the increasing reliance on server hosting providers.

Affected individuals are encouraged to access their accounts only in secure environments where cookie attacks are unlikely to occur. Additionally, it is advised to use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) as a general precaution.
