‘Secret Invasion’ Finale Just Teased the MCU Arrival of Harrison Ford in the Sneakiest Way

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Secret Invasion episode six.

The Secret Invasion finale had a multitude of tasks to accomplish. It not only had to wrap up the narrative of a global crisis that could lead to World War III, but also had to lay the groundwork for several upcoming projects in the MCU. While it may not have executed the first task as flawlessly as desired, it did manage to strategically position a few key elements for Phase Five. This even included the introduction of Harrison Ford to the franchise in a clever manner.

Despite a Skrull sacrificing his life to save President Ritson in episode four (R.I.P. Talos, you deserved better), Ritson, in response to his advisor “Rhodey” Rhodes being exposed as a Skrull imposter, initiates a hostile reaction against the Skrulls on Earth. This decision creates an atmosphere of fear and violence worldwide, resulting in vigilante attacks that tragically claim the lives of innocent humans and Skrulls alike.

In the aftermath, Fury chastises Ritson, remarking, “You worsened an already bad situation. That’s reminiscent of a failed presidency.” At first glance, Fury’s comment serves as a well-placed blow, highlighting the potential ruin of Ritson’s reelection campaign. However, when considering the future of the MCU, Fury’s statement morphs from being a threat into an accurate prediction.

Harrison Ford is slated to join the fray in the 2024 summer release of Captain America: Brave New World, where he will assume the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, previously portrayed by the late William Hurt. In this film, Ross will have secured the presidency. Therefore, Fury’s warning is precisely on point. Ritson’s reckless and bloodthirsty handling of the Skrull situation costs him the next election, paving the way for Ross to step into the hot seat.

Whether Ross will prove to be a superior leader of the free world remains uncertain. However, it is widely speculated that he will serve as an antagonistic force against Sam Wilson’s Sentinel of Liberty in the movie. Nevertheless, he surely can’t be a worse president than Ritson, can he?
