Season 2 of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’: Belly’s Decision Between Conrad

The focal point of the series is the love triangle involving Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah, generating divided opinions from fans regarding the best match for Belly. Despite initially dating Jeremiah, it becomes evident that Belly and Conrad share a deeper connection and are more harmonious. Conrad has been Belly’s first love since childhood, and despite their flaws and communication issues, they are destined to be together in the long run.

Season 2 of Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty introduces new obstacles and intensifies the existing ones, specifically the love triangle between Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. The previous season left viewers on an emotional rollercoaster, unsure of whom Belly will ultimately choose. However, it is clear that Conrad, Belly’s first love, is the one meant for her among the Fisher brothers. The love triangle is a significant aspect of the series, provoking debates amongst fans as to who is the ideal partner for the main character. In this case, some support Jeremy while others support Conrad. It often takes time to discover whom the main character will choose, as conversations and debates among fans gradually build. The Summer I Turned Pretty is no exception to this, and recent episodes have showcased why Conrad is the superior choice for Belly.

Firstly, let’s consider Jeremiah. Despite Belly’s first love being Conrad, she initially ends up with Jeremiah. This pairing in Season 1 received mixed reactions from fans. Jeremiah is a genuinely decent guy who is always there for those he cares about. Whenever Belly faces difficulties or sadness, he is by her side, doing his best to help her. For example, in the episode “Love Game,” a flashback portrays their younger days when Belly was sick with the flu. Susannah encourages Jeremiah to skip his plans and spend the day taking care of Belly. Reluctant at first, he ultimately complies. Belly fondly recalls their time hanging out, playing cards, and conversing, even when Jeremiah falls ill as well. In the present, Jeremiah volunteers to ride the Tower of Terror with Belly after she loses a bet. Season 2 starts off rocky for these two as Belly breaks things off to be with Conrad. This understandably hurts Jeremiah, who was ready to make their relationship public. It is understandable why he reacted the way he did and distanced himself from Belly. However, their relationship is never the same. When they reunite due to Conrad’s disappearance, they have an honest conversation, acknowledging their mistakes and beginning to rebuild their friendship. While it is likely that the rest of the season will bring Jeremiah and Belly close again romantically, it is hard to see Belly with him in the long run. Jeremiah is better suited as a dear friend to Belly. Their chemistry is strictly platonic, and they are not as compatible as Belly and Conrad. Jeremiah is carefree and lives in the moment without a solid plan for the future, which is not necessarily a negative trait. However, his personality does not align well with Belly’s. Additionally, Jeremiah did not display any romantic interest in Belly until he saw her and Conrad gradually developing their relationship. This demonstrates that Jeremiah is best suited as a best friend to Belly and that is not a bad thing.

The answer to Belly’s heart has always been Conrad. She has harbored a deep crush on him since childhood, making Conrad her first love. First loves tend to linger, as the majority of the first season showcases Conrad closing himself off from Belly and those who care about him. Belly tries repeatedly to encourage him to open up, but to no avail. This distance leads to multiple arguments between them. At one point, Belly even declares that she is done waiting for Conrad. However, Season 1 concludes with an emotional beach encounter where they express their feelings and seal it with a kiss. In Season 2, problems arise between them, and Belly often reminisces about their time as a couple. She notices Conrad becoming distant again, resulting in their eventual breakup. Nevertheless, due to the situation the Fisher family faces, Belly must confront Conrad once more. Despite her efforts to move on, seeing him triggers a flood of emotions. Conrad struggles to communicate his feelings, which is a major flaw, but when he is present, he is a fascinating, intelligent, and enjoyable person – the person Belly fell in love with. Conrad is burdened with responsibilities as the older brother and often feels the need to handle everything alone. This reveals his deep care and love for the people around him, particularly Belly. Ultimately, Belly and Conrad are more compatible, sharing a profound connection and a natural attraction. They complement each other well and have meaningful conversations. Before finding their way back to each other, they need to take a step back and figure things out individually. They are young and have time to heal on their own. However, it is unquestionable that they are meant to be together because, no matter how hard Belly tries to deny her feelings, her heart beats for Conrad.

Both brothers have flaws and shortcomings, and those who have read the books would likely choose Conrad over anyone else. However, for those solely basing their opinions on the show, it may not be difficult to pair Jeremiah with Belly. Realistically, Belly needs some time alone to reflect on her desires and heal. Nevertheless, regarding compatibility, Conrad is always the answer. He is her first love, after all.
