After the release of the movie “Black Widow” in 2021, it seemed like Scarlett Johansson’s journey with Marvel Studios had come to an end. However, a surprising announcement revealed that Johansson was involved in a “top secret” project with Kevin Feige, Marvel’s mega-boss, and that it was unrelated to “Black Widow”. Although we haven’t heard much about this project in the past couple of years, Johansson recently confirmed that it is still in progress.
During a press junket for “Asteroid City,” Johansson spoke to ComicBook.com and provided an update on the project. While she remained tight-lipped about the details, she revealed that the WGA strike has impacted the production timeline. Therefore, it will take even longer for us to find out what Johansson and Feige have been working on together.
The top secret project was first mentioned by Feige after Johansson had a public dispute with Disney over the distribution of “Black Widow”. The movie’s premiere in theaters was delayed due to the pandemic, and it was eventually released simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+, which Johansson’s lawyers claimed violated her contract. In October 2021, Disney and Johansson reached a settlement, and the specifics of the agreement were not made public.
Following the lawsuit, both Johansson and Disney made statements indicating that they would continue collaborating. Johansson’s recent statement further suggests that they have put their differences aside and moved on. While the details of the Marvel project she is producing remain unknown, she is actively involved in Taika Waititi’s “Tower of Terror,” where she will also star and produce for Disney.
