Samuel L. Jackson Addresses Toxic Marvel Fans Spewing Hate at Brie Larson

Brie Larson is an incredibly talented and accomplished actress. She began her acting career as a child actress in 1999 and has since grown into a force to be reckoned with. Larson has taken on notable roles, such as Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and most famously, Carol Danvers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite her success, Larson has faced unwarranted criticism from “toxic Marvel fans” on social media.

In response to the unfair treatment Larson has received, Samuel L. Jackson, an equally exceptional actor, has come to her defense. Jackson emphasizes that no amount of hate can bring down the 33-year-old actress.

Larson and Jackson shared the screen in 2019’s Captain Marvel. While Larson delivered an outstanding performance in the film, some individuals were displeased with the idea of a female superhero in a leading role. Thankfully, times have changed, and the outdated notion of only male main characters in the superhero genre is no longer widely accepted. However, Larson and many other actresses face criticism for their involvement in the franchise.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Jackson reveals that Larson consulted him when considering the leading role offered by Marvel Studios and Disney. He shares that they became close friends while working on Larson’s directorial debut, Unicorn Store. During the tumultuous period of the 2016 election, Jackson supported Larson and encouraged her not to let negativity break her spirit. He affirms that Larson is strong and won’t let the vitriol aimed at her bring her down.

“Then, when she got ‘Captain Marvel,’ she called me and was like, ‘They want me in the Marvel Universe. Should I do it?’ And I was like, ‘Hell yeah! Let’s do it!'” Jackson recalls. “She’s not going to let any of that stuff destroy her. These incel dudes who hate strong women, or the fact that she’s a feminist who has an opinion and expressed it? Everybody wants people to be who they want them to be. She is who she is, and she’s genuinely that.”
