Samsung has achieved an impressive milestone with the pre-bookings of its latest foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, in India. Within the first 28 hours of launching the bookings, the company secured pre-orders for 1 lakh units, surpassing the pre-bookings for the previous generation foldables, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4, by 1.7 times.
On July 27, 2023, Samsung opened the pre-bookings for the “Made in India” devices, which were launched on July 26. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 will be available for sale starting from August 18.
President and CEO of Samsung Southwest Asia, JB Park, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 in India. He believes that this success demonstrates the Indian consumers’ appreciation for new innovations. Park is confident that these new devices will contribute to the mainstream adoption of foldables and strengthen Samsung’s leadership position in India.
Pricing for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 ranges from Rs. 1,54,000 to Rs. 1,85,000, depending on the internal storage capacity. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available at a price range of Rs. 99,999 to Rs. 1,09,999.
According to market research firm Techarc, foldable smartphones, including flip variants, are projected to account for over 1.8 percent of total smartphone revenues in 2023. This estimate translates to approximately 6.35 lakh foldable smartphones being sold in India, which represents less than 0.5 percent of total sales by volume for the year.
