Last year at Netflix’s Tudum celebration, fans got a glimpse of the highly anticipated Lupin Part 3, the newest installment of the French original series featuring master thief Assane Diop (Omar Sy). As the event returns this year, Assane once again makes an appearance, and Netflix has released a thrilling new clip from the hit show. The clip showcases Assane navigating the rooftops of France with his usual daring, putting himself in constant danger.
Lupin Part 3 picks up after Assane has taken revenge against Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre) in Part 2 and is now forced to go into hiding. As the son of a Senegalese immigrant, Assane’s father was wrongly accused of stealing Pellegrini’s prized necklace, leading to his death in prison and leaving Assane as an orphan. With his family in danger, Assane returns to Paris in an attempt to convince his wife Claire (Ludivine Sagnier) and son Raoul (Etan Simon) to flee with him. However, Assane’s notoriety makes him a wanted man, and he faces danger at every turn.
The teaser perfectly captures the level of danger Assane is in. Fearing the police presence on the streets, Assane chooses to navigate the rooftops, making it harder for him to be caught. Unfortunately, two lookouts armed with sniper rifles are stationed on the roof, ready to apprehend him. In a tense moment, Assane manages to escape their sight, but the clip ends on a cliffhanger as he hangs off the ledge of a neighboring building. Whether Assane manages to escape or is apprehended by the police remains unknown, and fans will have to wait for Part 3 to find out.
It’s been a long wait for Lupin Part 3. The first two parts were released in 2021 and quickly gained popularity, reaching 70 million households within a month of their debut. Part 3, however, has taken over two years to arrive, with its release date set for October 5. Production of the series even faced a hiccup when real-life thieves stole equipment and props worth $330,000 from the set.
Lupin draws inspiration from the classic stories of Arsène Lupin, a gentleman thief created by Maurice Leblanc. The series is created by George Kay and François Uzan, with the writing team consisting of Eliane Montane and Sumerah Srivastav. The show is directed by Fast X director Louis Leterrier, along with Marcela Said, Ludovic Bernard, and Hugo Gélin.
