Speculations surrounding the release date of Sonic Superstars have emerged after GameStop and Target seemed to leak the information following the Sonic Central livestream.
Wario64, an alert Twitter user, noticed that GameStop and Target, both offering pre-orders for Sonic Superstars, had initially listed October 17 as the release date on their websites. This date, being a month earlier than usual for Sonic game releases, raised curiosity. However, IGN later discovered that the release date was changed to December 31, 2023, on the websites of both retailers.

As of now, Sega of America has not responded to IGN’s request for comment on the matter.
Sonic Superstars was unveiled at Summer Game Fest earlier this month, with an expected release in Fall 2023. Due to the recent release of the game’s trailer, it is surprising that the precise release date was revealed so quickly.
Based on general speculation, it is estimated that the game will be released sometime between August and October. Although August falls within the summer season, Sonic Mania was released during that month in 2017. Additionally, despite November being categorized as a fall month, Sega typically releases a new Sonic game several months after showcasing a Winter or Holiday release window, as seen with Sonic Frontiers.
If indeed Sonic Superstars is set to release on October 17, it will face competition from Alan Wake 2, which also launches on the same day. It will also contend with Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, both releasing on October 20.
