Remnant 2: How To Get Mutators

In addition to weapon upgrades, Remnant 2 offers the ability to enhance weapons even further with Mutators. Mutators are unique items that can be inserted into weapons to grant them passive abilities. These abilities, unlike Diablo 4’s sockets, go beyond simple stat increases and offer more interesting effects.

Every weapon in Remnant 2 possesses a single Mutator slot, whether it’s a basic starting gun or an epic sword obtained from a boss. It’s important not to confuse Mutators with Weapon Mods, as the former provides passive effects while the latter grants active abilities. Unlike Mods, Mutators do not require Energy to use. As long as a Mutator is equipped, its effect will activate whenever its requirement is fulfilled. Ranged weapons come with both a Mod slot and a Mutator slot, while most melee weapons only have a single Mutator slot and no Mod slot.

How To Acquire Mutators In Remnant 2

If you’re seeking Mutators for your weapons, there are two methods to obtain them. The first and easiest approach is to purchase them from Dwell in Ward 13. Dwell is a friendly Pan located across from the warehouse where you can upgrade weapons and create new Mods.

Dwell can craft some of the finest Mutators in Remnant 2, provided you have the means to compensate him for his efforts. Additionally, Dwell can upgrade your Mutators in exchange for Scrap and Corrupted Lumenite Crystals. This applies to all Mutators, not just the ones he sells. Dwell only charges 500 Scrap per Mutator, which is reasonable. However, he also requires 75 Relic Dust.

Relic Dust can be obtained from various sources, including bosses, chests, and even basic enemies. Nevertheless, it remains relatively rare in the grand scheme of things. It’s crucial to carefully consider your options since gathering 75 Relic Dust takes longer than expected. As for Corrupted Lumenite Crystals, they are solely dropped by Aberrations.

The other way to obtain Mutators in Remnant 2 is by defeating bosses and Aberrations, elite enemies that function as mini-bosses. While Aberrations always drop Mutators, bosses do not guarantee them. However, bosses do drop special crafting materials that allow the creation of powerful weapons and Mods. Consequently, you will obtain at least one valuable item each time you defeat a boss.

It is noteworthy that each Mutator offers two passive effects. The primary effect remains active at all times, irrespective of your level. On the other hand, the secondary effect only triggers when the Mutator is fully leveled up. Additionally, it is important to note that ranged Mutators cannot be equipped on melee weapons, and vice versa. This serves as an additional reason to carefully consider whether it is worth spending 75 Relic Dust on a Mutator.
