Contrary to rumors, James Gunn from DC Studios has confirmed that the final episodes of Doom Patrol will not be shelved. Read on for more details!

Back in January, DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran announced that Doom Patrol and Titans would be concluding with their upcoming fourth seasons. Despite some speculation, it was later revealed that this decision was made prior to Gunn and Safran joining Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). However, there has been some controversy surrounding Doom Patrol. Many individuals on social media are claiming that the remaining episodes will never see the light of day. This notion is fueled by the lack of a return date for Doom Patrol, even after Titans concluded its series run two months ago and with the first part of Doom Patrol wrapping up six months ago. Some viewers are wary due to past experiences with WBD and other streaming platforms canceling shows without any notice. The rumors grew so loud that they caught the attention of James Gunn himself. Taking to Threads, Gunn addressed the matter directly, stating that he is unsure of what is happening but cannot imagine a scenario where completed episodes would not be released.

Furthermore, Gunn clarified that the decision to conclude both shows was made before he and Safran took charge of DC Studios:

“I’m immensely proud of our gifted cast, crew, and writing staff and their efforts in bringing to life all forty-nine episodes over the last five-plus years,” said Titans showrunner Greg Walker when the news was first announced. “I couldn’t have asked for better partners in Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and HBO Max, and from the beginning, Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman. I’m incredibly grateful for their unyielding trust throughout this process. Lastly, I have to thank our incredible fans for their continued support, engagement, and the passionate community they’ve built around our show. We have six episodes left to unleash upon the world that we hope will give our beloved characters the creative closure we all know they deserve.” Doom Patrol showrunner Jeremy Carver added in a statement, “To our wonderfully supportive partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and DC Studios, thank you for indulging us these past four seasons. Also, what were you smoking? To our brilliant cast, indomitable crew, fearless writing staff, and, most of all, to our beautiful fans: thank you all the more. You made this a once-in-a-lifetime ride.”
