‘Release Date for Official Blu-Ray of The Super Mario Bros. Movie’

Even as it continues to screen in cinemas around the world since its premiere in April, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is heading to home entertainment. The animated feature, which boasts a faithful adaptation of the massively popular Super Mario and Super Mario Bros. franchises and brings to life some of the most iconic video game characters of all time, has garnered worldwide box office success. Produced by Nintendo, Universal, and Illumination, the movie is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. Voice actors on the ensemble cast include Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, and Jack Black, among others.

The movie tells the origin story of Mario and Luigi, the plumber brothers who get transported to the magical Mushroom Kingdom through a mysterious pipe. Princess Peach rules the land, but her kingdom is under threat from the Koopas, led by Bowser. On a budget of $100 million, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which followed the catastrophic failure of the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie adaptation, has already taken in an impressive $1.3 billion in global box office revenue.

It’s remarkable how much of an impact the movie has made considering that animation is slowly becoming a thing of the past in Hollywood. After the success of the film, it is gearing up for home entertainment release. The digital download version was released on May 16, 2023, and the DVD and Blu-Ray editions are set to hit the shelves on June 13, 2023. It became the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever and also became the first video game movie to gross over $1 billion worldwide in just one week of release. These are impressive numbers that suggest that the risks taken by Nintendo have paid off.
