Quentin Tarantino Joins the Ranks of the ‘Barbenheimer’ Army

The weekend was an absolute blockbuster for cinema enthusiasts as they flocked to their local theaters, multi-plexes, drive-ins, and IMAXs around the world to watch either Barbie, Oppenheimer, or even both. The films attracted a massive audience, including Hollywood elites who couldn’t resist experiencing both cinematic delights.

No matter who you are or how influential you are in the movie industry, Barbenheimer fever is inevitable. Even the legendary director, Quentin Tarantino, was spotted attending screenings of both movies on the same day. A photo surfaced on Twitter featuring Tarantino and his Pulp Fiction co-writer Roger Avary. The caption read, “In Westwood after seeing Oppenheimer, Quentin Tarantino walks across the street and buys a ticket to see Barbie.”

The pair journeyed from Westwood Village to the Regency Bruin Theatre, a notable location in Tarantino’s film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which also starred Margot Robbie. Tarantino found himself sitting in the very same theater where Robbie’s character watched herself on screen. The coincidences in life can be quite amusing.

Tarantino’s official Twitter page for his podcast, Video Archives Podcast, retweeted the photo with the comment, “Yes, our boys were out last night doing what they love the most together, seeing movies.”

Avary expressed his admiration for the Barbie screening on his Twitter page. (Sadly, Tarantino does not have one.) He wrote, “The Barbie screening in Westwood last night had an incredible audience, even cheering during the movie. Many of them were larping. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that, and it was truly awesome.”

The Barbenheimer frenzy generated extensive publicity for both films, resulting in the fourth-highest box office weekend in cinema history. This weekend’s earnings were only surpassed by the colossal success of Avengers: Endgame after Thanos was finally defeated. Of course, other films also contributed to this achievement.

Unsurprisingly, Barbie emerged as the more commercially successful film, raking in the highest box office revenue of the two. It made a colossal debut with $155 million, earning a staggering global total of $337 million. On the other hand, Nolan’s Oppenheimer received greater critical acclaim than Gerwig’s offering, but managed to collect $80.5 million, with a global total of $174 million. These figures are absolutely commendable.

If you haven’t already, take a cue from Tarantino and indulge in the cinematic magic of both Barbie and Oppenheimer in theaters now.
