Nintendo has officially announced a 40-minute Nintendo Direct scheduled for tomorrow, June 21. This Direct will primarily focus on the company’s lineup for late-2023. Now that we have confirmation of the Nintendo Direct, speculation about what Nintendo might unveil has reached a fever pitch. As we mentioned before, there have been rumors circulating about a new 2D Super Mario Bros. game and a remake of an SNES classic. We might just have more information about both of these rumors.
Let’s start with the SNES remake. While some people speculated that it might be a new version of Chrono Trigger, the latest rumors suggest it could actually be a remake of another Square Enix classic: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. PapaGenos, a well-known YouTuber who has a track record of accurate leaks for games like Super Smash Bros. and the shadow launch of Metroid Prime Remastered, claims to have received a message confirming the existence of a Super Mario RPG remake. Additionally, Pyoro ND, the original insider who started the SNES remake rumor, has been hinting at Super Mario RPG in their recent posts and likes.
Now, let’s talk about the 2D Mario game. According to Pyoro ND, it will not be another installment in the New Super Mario Bros. series. They also posted an emoji teaser for the game, which is open to interpretation. It seems to depict Daisy being kidnapped by a purple elephant, but who knows what it really means?
In other news, Pyoro ND recently shared a GIF of Detective Pikachu, sparking speculation that we might finally get a real look at Detective Pikachu 2. Although Pokemon announcements typically happen during Pokemon Directs, it’s not uncommon for spinoff games to make an appearance in regular Nintendo Direct shows.
