Possible Release of GTA 6 in 2024 Hinted by Take-Two, the Owners of Rockstar Games

According to the latest earnings report from Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) may be released as soon as next year. Take-Two has set ambitious goals for the fiscal years 2025 and 2026, aiming to achieve over $8 billion in net bookings by launching groundbreaking titles. While not explicitly mentioned, it is speculated that the highly anticipated GTA 6 could be the driving force behind this growth. It is difficult to imagine any other franchise achieving similar results for the company.

This assumption is supported by Take-Two’s previous net bookings, which reached $5.3 billion in the past fiscal year, partly due to their acquisition of mobile gaming giant Zynga. Prior to that, the company’s annual net bookings were around $3 billion. To reach their latest targets for fiscal years 2025-2026, Take-Two would need to make major acquisitions, release a higher number of titles, or launch a highly anticipated franchise sequel like GTA 6. For context, Grand Theft Auto V has sold 180 million copies since its launch in 2013.

Take-Two stated in its earnings report that they have been preparing their business for the release of a robust pipeline of projects that they believe will lead to even greater success. They expect to launch several groundbreaking titles in fiscal year 2025 that will set new industry standards and generate over $8 billion in net bookings and over $1 billion in adjusted unrestricted operating cash flow. They anticipate sustaining this momentum and delivering higher levels of operating results in fiscal year 2026 and beyond.

Since Rockstar Games confirmed the development of GTA 6 last year, the game has generated significant social media buzz, further building anticipation. In September, the studio experienced a leak that revealed gameplay footage from GTA 6. Take-Two confirmed the authenticity of the leak but stated that it did not impact their business significantly. The leak showcased in-development gameplay footage and featured two playable characters, Lucia and Jason, aligning with earlier reports of a female lead in the game. An unnamed 17-year-old from Oxfordshire, England, was reportedly arrested under suspicion of hacking and associated with the hacker group ‘Laspus$,’ which was allegedly responsible for the Uber leaks.

In addition to GTA 6, Take-Two’s upcoming releases include Judas, the next game from BioShock creator Ken Levine, a new Mafia title from Hangar 13, another BioShock entry, and a lineup of annual sports games. Meanwhile, the company continues to thrive on the sales of GTA V, its active online component, and Red Dead Redemption 2, which has sold over 53 million copies.

Overall, the anticipation for GTA 6 and the ambitious goals set by Take-Two indicate exciting prospects for the future of the company.
