PlayStation 5 “Slim” Not Being Slim at All Shouldn’t Be a Surprise, as Die Shrinks Are Dead

The PlayStation 5 “Slim” model is not expected to have a slim design, according to leaked images and footage. It seems that the new hardware revision will not be significantly smaller than the current models. However, this should not come as a surprise, as a well-known AMD leaker explains.

Kepler took to Twitter to comment on the unofficial reveal of the PS5 “slim” model. They state that the absence of slim consoles in this generation should not be surprising, as die shrinks are no longer viable for cost and power reduction. Even if Sony and Microsoft wanted to shrink the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it would cost them over $100 million and provide no real benefit.

Regarding the leaked image and video of the PlayStation 5 “Slim” hardware revision, it confirms that the design of the upcoming 2000 series model will not be drastically different from the current one, featuring only minor aesthetic changes. While there is still much we don’t know about the new model since Sony has yet to officially unveil it, it’s possible that there will be additional changes under the hood that cannot be shown in the leaked video. With the console expected to release before the end of the year, we can expect more news to come soon. Stay tuned for updates.
