PlayStation 5 Pro to Debut in April 2023, May Feature Liquid Cooling: Report

Sony may be preparing to release a new iteration of the PlayStation 5 as early as April 2023. According to a recent report, rather than launching the rumored Slim version, Sony might introduce the PlayStation 5 Pro instead. It has been approximately two and a half years since the original PlayStation 5 was released in 2020. The Pro model is expected to come equipped with a more powerful AMD chip and potentially incorporate a liquid cooling system for enhanced heat dissipation.

A reliable source, as reported by PhonAndroid, suggests that the PS5 Pro could debut in April 2023. As a Pro variant, it is anticipated to showcase a new AMD chip and possibly include a liquid cooling system similar to those commonly found in gaming PCs.

The current PlayStation 5 features a liquid metal compound combined with a cooling fan. The introduction of a new liquid cooling system is likely to offer superior heat dissipation compared to the existing base model. Sony may also have to revise the design to accommodate the liquid cooling system, although concrete evidence of this is currently unavailable.

Furthermore, the report mentions the possibility of Sony selling off its existing PS5 stock before the arrival of the PS5 Pro. The Pro model is expected to be notably more expensive than the base version and could face production limitations due to the ongoing shortage of essential components and equipment.

At this stage, Sony has yet to confirm the existence of a PS5 Pro or a slim version. Whether it is the Pro or the slim model that eventually hits the market, it is highly likely that Sony will unveil the new iteration at a State of Play event. However, the company has not announced any plans for such an event. Consequently, it would be wise to approach this information with caution for now.
