Paramount+ has announced that its original series, “School Spirits,” will be returning for a second season. In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming service revealed that the decision to renew the show was partly due to its success in targeting the young adult demographic.
“School Spirits” revolves around Maddie, played by Peyton List, a high school student who mysteriously disappears and ends up haunting her school. She soon discovers that she’s not alone in the afterlife and forms a bond with other ghostly students. Unlike them, Maddie can still communicate with the living and sets out to uncover the truth about her own death.
The first season of “School Spirits” concluded with several intriguing revelations. One of them being that Maddie is actually alive but not in control of her body. Another revelation involves Janet, who possessed Maddie and explains why Maddie can communicate with the living. The mysteries surrounding Janet’s passing and Mr. Martin’s motives for not wanting to revisit his own death were also revealed, leaving room for further exploration in season 2.
“School Spirits” is based on an upcoming graphic novel of the same name by Megan Trinrud and Nate Trinrud. The show was created and executive produced by the Trinrud siblings, with Max Winkler, Oran Zegman, Brian Dannelly, and Hannah Macpherson serving as directors. Executive producers include Don Dunn, Joyce Sawa, Oliver Goldstick from “Bridgerton” and “Pretty Little Liars,” and showrunner. The talented cast includes Kristian Flores, Milo Manheim, Kiara Pichardo, Sarah Yarkin, Spencer MacPherson, Nick Pugliese, Rainbow Wedell, and Alison Thornton.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Shauna Phelan, Executive VP and Co-Head of Nickelodeon and Awesomeness live-action, expressed excitement about the show’s renewal, citing the positive response from fans as a key factor in the decision.
