Oxenfree II: Lost Signals Confirmed for July Release on Netflix, PlayStation, and PC

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals has finally received a release date. The exciting news was revealed during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase, where Night School Studio confirmed that the highly anticipated supernatural thriller sequel will be available on July 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Netflix. Although initially unrelated to the original Oxenfree, a series of updates in 2021 introduced radio transitions that provide context about future antagonists known as Parentage. Unfortunately, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals faced a delay and is now set to launch in 2023, allowing for additional localization options.

Night School Studio also treated fans to a captivating trailer for Oxenfree II: Lost Signals. The game centers around a new protagonist named Riley, an environmental researcher who returns to her hometown of Camena. Set five years after the events of the original game, players will embark on an investigation into strange electromagnetic waves that are causing disruptions in radio and electrical devices. It’s reminiscent of a poltergeist’s presence, with televisions flickering on and off, planes struggling to navigate, and radio stations succumbing to static. In Oxenfree, released in 2016, a group of teenagers unintentionally opened a portal that allowed interdimensional travel, much like the popular TV show Stranger Things.

However, in Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, the antagonistic cult group known as Parentage has been attempting to open a new portal and unleash something sinister. In the trailer, Riley hints at the eerie atmosphere of a seemingly deserted town, suggesting the involvement of the cult. The game employs an intuitive point-and-click mechanic, allowing players to tap into ghostly frequencies using the unique “radio mechanic” to communicate with supernatural entities and travel through time via fissures in the natural space. The trailer offers glimpses of unsettling occurrences, such as glitchy demons, characters levitating against their will, and a mysteriously tilted house.

Aside from these thrilling elements, players can also explore the hauntingly beautiful landscape of Camena through general navigation, including climbing and rappelling. The game introduces a new feature called the “walkie-talkie conversation system,” enabling interactions with saved contacts and conversations with locals to unravel the town’s enigmatic secrets. Night School Studio became the first developer to be acquired by Netflix as part of the streaming giant’s venture into gaming content. This release date announcement for Oxenfree II: Lost Signals coincides with Netflix’s recent revelation of plans to bring 40 new games to its platform in 2023.

Mark your calendars for the highly anticipated release of Oxenfree II: Lost Signals on July 12, available on PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Netflix. And don’t forget, Netflix subscribers can currently enjoy the first Oxenfree game as a free download.
