Original Resident Evil 2 Can Be Finished Without Moving an Inch

The Unconventional Challenge of Completing Resident Evil 2 Without Walking

Are you looking for a unique and time-consuming challenge in the world of gaming? Twitch streamer and speedrunner Punchy has recently proven that it is possible to complete the 1998 classic game Resident Evil 2 without taking a single physical step. In a 40-minute highlight video uploaded to YouTube, Punchy provides commentary on their incredible journey that took them 13 hours and 34 minutes to accomplish.

When attempting this challenge, Punchy set a few rules. They were not allowed to initiate walking actions manually, but they could turn to face different directions and climb stairs since it involved an automatic animation. Their method of movement? Simply aiming their gun, which slightly shifted the character forward. This slow progression meant that it took around five minutes to navigate through just three screens of the game.

Punchy’s determination faced additional obstacles due to the auto aim feature in the Japanese version of Resident Evil 2. This made it difficult to deal with off-screen enemies obstructing the path of the main character, Leon. However, after some off-stream testing, Punchy discovered that aiming the magnum down at the ground provided enough push to make it to the end of the game before the final boss sequence timer ran out.

Although Punchy admits that their run was not optimal, they have proven that it is indeed possible to conquer the original Resident Evil 2 without physically moving. If you are up for an exceptionally slow and challenging gameplay session, give it a try!
