The Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is the latest chipset for entry-level 5G smartphones, announced by the chipmaker on Monday. It is the successor to the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC and the first chip in the series to be built on a 4nm process node. With 10 percent better performance than its predecessor, the new chip offers improved power and efficiency.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Availability

According to details shared by Qualcomm, smartphone models from manufacturers like Redmi and Vivo will use the new Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset. These smartphones are expected to be available for purchase in the second half of 2023.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Specifications

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC comprises two performance cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six efficiency cores clocked at 2GHz. It offers a 10 percent increase in performance compared to the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. Additionally, it supports UFS 3.1 storage, LPDDR5x RAM at 3200MHz, and full-HD+ displays with a 120Hz refresh rate.



The new chip features on-device AI technology that reduces background noise during voice and video calls. It also supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connectivity and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology based on the USB-PD standard.

Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X61 5G modem, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is the first in the series to support the 3GPP Release 16 5G standard. It enables download speeds of up to 2.5Gbps and supports Bluetooth 5.1 and dual-band Wi-Fi 5 connectivity. It also offers support for various location services.

For imaging, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC supports a dual camera setup with two 16-megapixel cameras or a single 32-megapixel camera. The chip allows for smooth video capturing with AI features for improved low-light photography.
