New Image of Emma Stone in ‘Poor Things’ Reveals Her Ice-Cold Character

Following the success of the dark comedy film “The Favourite” in 2018, which brought together director Yorgos Lanthimos, Olivia Colman, and Emma Stone, Stone is once again teaming up with the acclaimed director for his latest project, “Poor Things,” a twisted Frankenstein-inspired tale. While Lanthimos is known for his dense and unsettling psychological dramas, “Poor Things” marks a departure for him as he delves into the realm of sci-fi horror. A newly released image from the film showcases Stone in the lead role as Bella Baxter, a woman who is resurrected by a deranged scientist with the brain of an infant replacing her own.

Lanthimos has praised Stone’s performance in the film, describing it as unprecedented and stating that he is amazed by her talent. In fact, Stone has been cast in Lanthimos’ next project, an anthology film titled “AND,” due to his admiration for her. Joining Stone in the cast of “Poor Things” is Willem Dafoe, who portrays Dr. Godwin Baxter, the twisted madman responsible for Bella’s resurrection. Margaret Qualley also stars in the film, and all three actors will reunite for “AND.” The cast is rounded out by Mark Ruffalo, Christopher Abbott, Ramy Youssef, Jarod Carmichael, and Kathryn Hunter.

“Poor Things” was filmed in Hungary in the latter half of 2021 and is based on the novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray, with a screenplay adapted by Tony McNamara, who previously collaborated with Lanthimos on “The Favourite.” The film features cinematography by Robbie Ryan and editing by Yorgos Mavropsaridis. Alongside Lanthimos and Stone, the producers of “Poor Things” include Ed Guiney, Ali Herting, Andrew Lowe, and Dave McCary.
