New EA Sports FC 24 Gameplay Trailer: Unveiling Enhanced Player-Specific PlayStyles, HyperMotionV, and More

EA Sports FC 24, set to launch on September 29, has unveiled an in-depth trailer showcasing the exciting technological advancements coming to this year’s installment of the popular football simulation game. With the introduction of HyperMotionV technology, players can expect enhanced realism in terms of movement and interaction. Additionally, the game will feature player-specific abilities called PlayStyles and will include women footballers in the controversial Ultimate Team mode. Notably, this will be the first football title from EA Sports without the ‘FIFA’ name, as their partnership with the global football federation ended due to financial disagreements over a new licensing deal.

The upcoming EA Sports FC 24 aims to deliver unparalleled realism, thanks to the innovative motion capture HyperMotionV technology. By utilizing volumetric data from over 180 professional matches, the game recreates them in-game, capturing player movements directly from their real-life performances. This eliminates the need for players to visit the studio and wear motion capture suits. All the data is sourced from cameras within stadiums, enabling EA to produce authentic animations, such as Erling Haaland’s iconic karate kick goal against Borussia Dortmund, which is now featured in the game. During the game’s reveal event, EA announced that the developers can incorporate the latest animations into the game engine within days of their occurrence on the pitch.

During gameplay, players will notice RPG-like icons representing unique and player-specific signature abilities. Through a collaboration with leading statisticians Opta Sports, EA Sports has assigned PlayStyles to players, allowing for distinct actions on the virtual pitch. For example, defenders like Liverpool FC’s Virgil van Dijk can perform a stop tackle, enabling them to cleanly steal the ball and initiate a counterattack. Slide tacklers will see the ball stick to their feet, rather than bouncing off randomly, ensuring better ball retention. Players have the opportunity to possess multiple PlayStyles, with some world-class footballers even granted the PlayStyle+ label, providing them with stronger abilities. However, it remains unclear how exactly these abilities benefit the player.

Renowned players like Neymar Jr. possess exceptional skill moves, and the introduction of the Trickster+ style aims to reflect this in the game. In total, there are 34 distinct PlayStyles available, and players can equip them in the career mode for personalized gameplay and the opportunity to build a formidable squad in the Ultimate Team segment. While these indicators may enhance gameplay, it is preferable if they can be disabled to avoid distraction. EA Sports also highlighted the return of the Frostbite Engine in FC24, emphasizing its ability to render realistic fabric movement on footballers’ kits. Although these visual improvements may seem subtle, EA consistently strives to enhance the overall gaming experience.

As previously mentioned, EA Sports FC24 will introduce women footballers to the Ultimate Team mode, allowing them to play alongside or against male players. This move does not create a separate division but rather allows for integration, enabling female players to compete with highly rated players if their attributes and height match. While this decision has received backlash from some fans, John Shepherd, VP of Electronic Arts, stated that their vision is to connect with a larger audience and welcome everyone into the game and the EA Sports ecosystem. Ultimate Team is designed to enable players to build the best team, regardless of gender, and EA believes it will be beneficial for the future of football and their fans.

EA Sports FC 24 will be available on various platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and the Nintendo Switch, starting from September 29. Pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition provides early access to the game from September 22.
