New Action-Packed Trailer for Phantom Liberty Expansion of Cyberpunk 2077, Release Date Scheduled for September 26

Exciting news for gaming enthusiasts: Cyberpunk 2077’s highly anticipated Phantom Liberty expansion now has a release date and action-packed trailer to accompany it. Unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, the expansion is scheduled to drop on September 26 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Discover the uncharted district of Dogtown within Night City’s walls and embark on a high-stakes espionage mission to save the President of the New United States of America (NUS). This expanded storyline promises to be captivating, and features Keanu Reeves’ return as Johnny Silverhand.

The Phantom Liberty trailer opens with V, the protagonist, experiencing anxious jitters that signal her possible demise. Johnny Silverhand assures her that there is a way out, hoping to resolve her body’s capacity to handle Cyberware body modification, which has been completely redone in this expansion. According to a VGC report, the new system, which places limits on a character’s body modification, demands a new playthrough for gamers. However, CD Projekt Red has included an Edgerunners perk that permits players to overcome those limitations, albeit with penalties to their health. This element is reminiscent of the cyberpsychosis feature displayed in the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, wherein installing excessive Cyberware causes characters to go berserk.

The edginess of Phantom Liberty doesn’t lean into the psychosis aspect; rather, it implements it as a high-risk-high-reward feature, according to creative director Pawel Sasko. The trailer introduces a new character named Songbird, an NUS intelligence analyst who claims to be able to save V’s life due to the “bomb” inside her. However, for V to benefit from her aid, she must carry out an espionage mission to gain access to Dogtown. The district’s residents intend to hold the President, Rosalind Myers, hostage after her aircraft crashes, resulting in a group of Sleeper Agents, including Idris Elba’s character, FIA Agent Solomon Reed, being deployed to resolve the issue.

As we make contact with President Myers, Reed warns us, “Stay sharp, we are in the wolf’s den now,” before culminating in a chase sequence that involves a giant spider-mech that spews lasers. V adamantly declares that someone has “ratted us out,” which appears to be the core of Phantom Liberty’s storyline. The trailer ends with a montage of action sequences involving gunplay and V losing control of her basic motor skills, which adds to the intensity of the game and heightens the stakes for her survival.

Pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty are now available on all platforms, with the PC version costing Rs. 1,499 and the console version costing Rs. 1,745/ $29.99. Mark your calendars for September 26, 2021, as we anticipate embarking on this exciting espionage adventure.
