Millions of iPhone Users May Incur High Costs Due to Blockbuster Apple Upgrade

There’s exciting news for iPhone users – an all-new operating system, iOS 17, will be released later this year. However, some Apple fans may be disappointed to hear that the new software won’t be available on the same list of devices that can run iOS 16. This means that some users may have to buy a more expensive upgrade if they want to access all the latest features.

Devices that won’t be able to run the new OS include the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. While these phones are old (the iPhone 8 was launched in 2018), millions of people across the globe still use them.

If your phone is on the list above, you may need to invest in a more recent model to access updates like personalised Contact Posters, which let you design a unique look for incoming calls.

iOS 17 comes with many other features, such as Live Voicemail, which gives users the ability to see real-time transcription when someone leaves a voicemail. Live Stickers can also be created from photos to make messages more fun.

Another exciting update is NameDrop, which allows users to share contact information simply by bringing their iPhones together. iOS 17 also introduces StandBy, which provides a full-screen experience with glanceable information designed to be viewed from a distance when your phone is on its side and charging.

Think of it as a mini smart display, showing things like clocks, calendars, and photos. Finally, there’s the new Journal app, which makes it easy to jot down thoughts and ideas throughout the day.

If you’re disappointed that your phone won’t support the new OS, you have plenty of time to save up for a newer model. iOS 17 will be released in September.

According to Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, “With iOS 17, we’ve made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day. Phone, FaceTime, and Messages are central to how we communicate, and this release is packed with updates we think our users are going to love. We’ve also reimagined AirDrop with new ways to share, autocorrect gets even better, and we’re introducing all-new experiences with Journal and StandBy, plus so much more. We can’t wait for everyone to try it.”
