Microsoft Introduces Bing’s Voice Chat Feature to Edge Desktop Version

Microsoft is announcing the integration of the new Bing Voice Chat feature into its Edge browser on desktops, allowing users to use their voice to ask the Bing chatbot questions, which will reply back in a voice of its own. The feature is already available on the Edge mobile app, and now desktop users will be able to select the microphone button on Bing’s chat box to ask their questions aloud. Microsoft recently revealed that its chatbot currently supports English, Japanese, French, German, and Mandarin, with more languages expected to be added in the future.

Microsoft has also decided to discontinue Cortana on Windows later this year and is replacing it with Bing and its AI-powered Copilot, which will be built into Windows 11. Copilot will be available directly in the taskbar, allowing users to access it for general questions, to summarise content they are viewing, adjust their PC’s settings, and more.

In addition to the Bing Voice Chat integration and Copilot, Microsoft has recently opened up the new AI-powered Bing to more users by moving from Limited Preview to Open Preview and eliminating the waitlist for a trial. Moreover, the company has switched from text-only search and chat to more visual-rich results with image and video answers, and multimodal support is coming soon. Microsoft has also opened up platform capabilities for developers and third parties to build on top of Bing, enabling people to take action on their queries and complete tasks.

Overall, the new updates from Microsoft indicate a significant investment in voice search and the advancement of AI-powered chatbots. As users become increasingly reliant on digital assistants for information and guidance, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft’s offerings stack up against those of its competitors.
