Meta Unveils Meta Quest+, a Subscription-Based Service for VR Headsets

Meta Platforms has announced the launch of Meta Quest+, a subscription-based service for its virtual reality (VR) headsets. This move is aimed at shaping the growing VR market, which requires significant investment. During a broadcast on the Instagram social media app, Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the Meta Quest+ subscription will be available for $7.99 per month or $59.99 annually for Quest 2, Pro, and soon for Quest 3 headsets.

While Meta currently dominates the market, Apple has entered the VR space with its Vision Pro augmented reality headset, priced at $3,499, which is three times more expensive than Meta’s highest-priced headset.

In an attempt to make a bigger impact, Meta reduced the prices of its headsets in March. The flagship Meta Quest Pro headset is currently priced at $999.99, down from its original launch price of $1,499.99, and the Quest 2 is being sold for $299.99, according to Meta’s website.

Despite the advanced features of VR headsets, their adoption has primarily been limited to the gaming community. As part of the Meta Quest+ subscription service, users will have access to two hand-picked VR titles each month. Meta is also offering a limited-time deal, allowing new subscribers who sign up before July 31 to avail the first month for just $1.

Meta describes Meta Quest+ as an affordable way to experience curated content, providing users with a monthly value of up to $60. They are excited to offer Meta Quest gamers a new way to explore the full potential of their headsets.

In other news, Apple recently unveiled its first mixed reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, at its annual developer conference.
