Meta resolves outage issues, bringing Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp back online following user complaints.

Meta Platforms, the parent company of social media apps Facebook and Instagram, has announced that services have been restored after an outage that affected thousands of users. The outage-tracking website Downdetector.com reported that at one point, nearly 20,000 users were having trouble accessing Facebook, Instagram, and Meta’s messaging service WhatsApp. Meta acknowledged the issue on Twitter and assured users that they were working to resolve it. As of 6:30 pm ET, the number of outage reports had decreased to less than 500. However, it is possible that the outage may have affected a larger number of users. Meta also confirmed that issues with its Ads Manager, the advertising tool for buying and creating Facebook ads, have been resolved.

Interestingly, the outage was not global, as users in India reported that Facebook and Instagram were working fine for them. In other news, Meta has announced that it is rolling back a policy aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 misinformation on its platforms. This decision comes after social media platforms faced pressure to tackle misinformation related to the pandemic, including false claims about vaccines. The company had sought the opinion of its independent oversight board last year and has now revised its approach, considering the availability of authentic sources of information and increased awareness around COVID-19.

In addition to the outage news, Apple unveiled its first mixed reality headset, called the Apple Vision Pro, at its annual developer conference. The company also introduced new Mac models and upcoming software updates.
