Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and CEO of Meta, recently engaged in an online exchange with Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), dubbed a ‘cage-fight’.
Musk announced on Sunday that the potential in-person fight with Zuckerberg would be streamed on his social media site X.
Zuckerberg responded to Musk’s announcement by questioning the reliability of X as a platform for raising money for charity. He shared a screenshot of Musk’s post on Threads and stated his preference for a more reliable platform.
Furthermore, Zuckerberg expressed his readiness for the fight, suggesting August 26 as a date. However, he clarified that Musk has not confirmed the date. With a hint of skepticism, Zuckerberg added, “Not holding my breath.”
Reportedly, the two tech billionaires agreed to a “cage match” face-off in late June.
It is worth noting that Zuckerberg is trained in mixed martial arts (MMA) and has recently achieved the rank of blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a self-defense martial art and combat sport.
In response, Musk proclaimed his preference for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) format for the fight.
This banter between Musk and Zuckerberg has garnered attention on social media, particularly due to the launch of Threads by Zuckerberg, which is viewed as a rival to Musk’s Twitter (now X).
The exchange began when Musk, the owner of X, responded to a tweet about Meta’s preparation to release Threads, mockingly suggesting that the world would be exclusively under Zuckerberg’s control with no alternative options. A Twitter user then playfully mentioned Zuckerberg’s jiu-jitsu training, prompting Musk’s reaction.
Zuckerberg, who frequently uses Threads to share updates ever since its launch, emphasized his love for sports and his continuous pursuit of competition. He also hinted at his willingness to compete with those who train, irrespective of the outcome of the proposed fight.
Given Musk’s history of prematurely tweeting about various actions without following through, it remains to be seen whether the two social media owners will actually step into the ring in Las Vegas.
