M3-powered Macs from Apple Expected to Launch in October

After the much-anticipated release of new iPhones in September, Apple is rumored to be introducing new Macs featuring the new M3 chip in October.

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who shares his insights in the weekly newsletter Power On, Apple is expected to launch the new batch of Macs in October, just a month after unveiling the iPhone 15 series. These new Macs will be equipped with the next-generation M3 chip.

Gurman predicts that there will be new additions to the MacBook lineup, including a new 13-inch MacBook Air and a 13-inch MacBook Pro, both powered by the yet-to-be-announced M3 chip. The 13-inch MacBook Air will likely not have any significant design changes, as it already underwent a refresh last year, apart from the new chip. As for the 13-inch MacBook Pro, it may receive hardware updates, but it’s unclear if there will be any changes to its appearance.

In addition to the MacBook lineup, there are also rumors of a new iMac featuring the M3 chip. The last time we saw a new iMac was over two years ago, and it sported a colorful design and first-generation Apple Silicon. It’s uncertain if the upcoming iMac will have any changes to its form factor. Gurman’s Power On newsletter from last week suggests that larger iMacs, possibly including a 32-inch model, will not be released until late 2024.

Furthermore, there are reports of an M3-powered iPad Pro and iPad Air, but these may not launch until next year, according to Gurman.

Apple has been testing the M3 chips for some time now. The M3 chip is expected to utilize a 3nm process, providing improved performance and power efficiency compared to the current-generation 5nm chips. Eventually, we can expect the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips to power MacBook Pros, Mac Studio, and other machines from the Pro lineup.
