Lollipop Chainsaw remake revs its way towards a 2024 release date, gets a proper title

Surprisingly, the highly anticipated remake of Lollipop Chainsaw has been delayed until 2024.

Dragami Games, the developer, recently announced on Twitter that the remake of the cult classic from 2012 will no longer be released in 2023 but is instead scheduled for release in the summer of 2024. What’s more, the game has been officially renamed Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. “The title of Lollipop Chainsaw Remake (tentative name) has been decided as Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP,” stated Dragami Games on Twitter. “In addition, the release date has been postponed from 2023 to the summer of 2024. We will make every effort to create a high-quality game and ask for your continued support!”

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP was initially announced last year in celebration of the game’s 10th anniversary. The original version, released in 2012, sold approximately one million units worldwide, a respectable figure but not enough to ensure the game enjoyed long-lasting popularity. Although there will be some changes to the series, Dragami Games President Yoshimi Yasuda addressed fans’ concerns following the announcement.

“The primary objective of the Lollipop Chainsaw remake project is to make it easy for players who wish to play Lollipop Chainsaw,” explained Yasuda. “Our ideal scenario would be to create a remastered version of the original game with no alterations. However, due to licensing issues, we were unable to include 16 of the licensed songs that played a significant role in the feel of the original game. As a result, we are aiming to create a remake that is as close as possible to a remaster.”

Unfortunately, if you desire the original, unaltered experience, you will need to acquire a copy for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

There is currently no information regarding the platforms on which the game will be available, but it is expected to release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S when it arrives next year.
