Lance Armstrong is collaborating with Caitlyn Jenner to delve into the discussion on transgender athletes and the concept of “fairness” in sports. Yes, you read that correctly, Lance Armstrong…

When pondering the issue of transgender athletes in competitive sports, one might not immediately think of Caitlyn Jenner or Lance Armstrong as the ideal sources to provide insightful perspectives on the topic. However, these two individuals, despite not being the most intuitive choice, are pushing forward with a collaboration for The Forward to address the matter. Normally, we wouldn’t delve into right-wing topics involving discredited celebrities offering opinions on subjects far beyond their expertise – it’s like witnessing KISS’s Gene Simmons giving geopolitical insights and advice. One might mistake the entire world for a constantly altering headline from The Onion. Yet, Armstrong took to Twitter to discuss the project and raised the issue of “fairness” in sports, prompting some skepticism. It’s hard not to question the display of such a lack of self-awareness or humility.

“Is there not a world in which one can be supportive of the transgender community and curious about the fairness of transgender athletes in sports, without being labeled a transphobe or bigot for asking questions?” Armstrong questioned in a series of tweets promoting their project with Jenner. “Do we even have the answers yet? And do we truly want to discover them?” Surprisingly, Armstrong’s remarks reflect a distinct lack of self-awareness and humility. It’s worth noting that Armstrong gained prominence as a symbol of cancer survival and athletic perseverance, achieving a record-breaking seven consecutive victories in the Tour de France from 1999 to 2005. However, he was subsequently stripped of his titles after an investigation by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) revealed conclusive evidence of his use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout his cycling career. Armstrong’s denial and subsequent public admission in 2013 only reinforce the blatant hypocrisy of his current stance.
