  • Featuring a brilliant script and A-list stars, Strays is set to be a popular summer movie that explores toxic relationships and the power of friendship.

Talking animal movies are a genre of their own. They appeal to families by blending adventure, fantasy, and star power to bring our beloved four-legged friends to life. Strays, the newest comedy from Universal, starring Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Isla Fisher, and Randall Park, perfectly embodies this genre. However, unlike traditional talking animal films, the dogs in Strays add a touch of edginess and rebellion to the mix. In partnership with Universal, Collider is thrilled to present an exclusive clip from the movie, showcasing our furry heroes gathering in a public park.

In this scene, Maggie, a lovable Australian Shepherd played by Fisher, stands out as she demonstrates to the other dogs how her owner’s obsession with her tiny Pomeranian leads to neglect and affects her mental well-being. Maggie, while visibly losing her grip on sanity, shows the other dogs that her cute appearance doesn’t guarantee love and care. This clip sets the stage for Strays to become one of the most enjoyable films of the summer, with its clever screenplay and a cast of top-notch actors at their best.

What’s Strays All About Anyway?

In this heartwarming tale, Reggie, an innocent and forever optimistic Border Terrier portrayed by Ferrell, experiences a devastating betrayal when his heartless owner, Doug (Will Forte), callously abandons him on the harsh city streets. Despite the abandonment, Reggie clings to hope, believing that his owner must have had a good reason to leave him. Fate intervenes, and Reggie crosses paths with Bug (Foxx), a fast-talking and rebellious Boston Terrier who cherishes his freedom and rejects the idea of having an owner. Through their unlikely friendship, Reggie begins to unravel the truth about his toxic relationship with Doug and realizes the cruelty of the man he used to admire. Together with their companions, Maggie and Hunter, an anxious Great Dane (Park) working as a support dog, they embark on a mission to help Reggie seek vengeance and teach Doug a painful lesson.

Strays was written by Dan Perrault (American Vandal, Players) and directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar). Perrault also serves as a producer alongside the renowned duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller, known for their work on projects like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Cocaine Bear, and The Lego Movie. Be sure to catch the premiere of Strays on August 18 in theaters. Watch our exclusive clip below for a sneak peek:
