IPad: Apple refreshes iPad (10th generation) for Chinese market: Here’s what is new

Earlier this week, reports suggested that Apple will refresh its iPad lineup with powerful chipsets and will issue a press release in this regard. The iPhone maker instead launched its most affordable Apple Pencil with USB Type-C port. But, it turns out there is a ‘new’ iPad as well but only for the Chinese market.
According to a press release that Apple issued in China, the company updated the iPad (10th generation) model with eSIM support. The information was buried amid the Apple Pencil announcement.
“The updated iPad (10th generation) wireless LAN + cellular network model supports eSIM in mainland China for the first time. The updated iPad (10th generation) wireless LAN + cellular model will support the eSIM cellular network data plan in mainland China, enabling fast, smooth, and secure cellular data connections without the need for a physical SIM card,” the company said.
This updated iPad will be available for pre-order on October 19 and will be officially released on October 25.
“The upgraded iPad (10th generation) wireless LAN + cellular network model supports eSIM, and users can choose China Unicom’s cellular data plan directly on the iPad. Users can also continue to use physical SIM cards activated by the operator,” it said.
No chip update
Reports said that the iPad Air, iPad mini and the base model iPad would get smaller spec bump updates. They also claimed that Apple would announce M2 chipset for iPad Air and A16 Bionic processor for the iPad mini.
The iPad Pro lineup, which was updated in October 2022, will stay the same for now, the report said. It was also said that Apple was also looking to address “jelly scrolling” on iPad mini.
