The latest addition to the line-up is the Tank 2, which boasts a feature not seen since the Samsung Galaxy Beam over a decade ago. The device is equipped with a laser projector, making it a great portable projector. However, this impressive feature comes with limitations. The native resolution is 1280 x 720 (HD) with brightness at 40 lumens. The throw and contrast ratios are 1.2:1 and 80000:1, respectively. These figures suggest it is not suitable for large audiences or business presentations. Nevertheless, the Tank 2 is an affordable option, costing less than $340 on Chinese online retailer, Aliexpress. It has a quartet of camera sensors, 256GB storage, a 6.8-inch FHD+ display, Android 13, a Mediatek CPU (Helio G99), 12GB of RAM (expandable to 22GB) and a massive 15.5mAh battery. It’s IP68/IP69K certified and weighs over 500g with a thickness of 23.5mm, making it hefty and bulky. However, this design is typical of rugged smartphones and provides a sense of durability. It doesn’t have 5G or wireless charging capabilities, and the processor may be a bit slow. After-sales support may also be cumbersome. The Unihertz Tank 2 is an innovative and exciting smartphone that is perfect for portable projection, but not suited for business or large audiences. It remains to be seen how it will fare compared to previous attempts to integrate projectors into smartphones.
