Indian Sellers Can Register on Amazon using a Valid Mobile Number: Celebrating World MSME Day

Amazon India has launched an innovative and streamlined registration process that aims to simplify the onboarding experience for businesses in India. This new process also provides intelligent suggestions to help businesses complete the onboarding process seamlessly. It specifically aims to empower small businesses, enabling them to easily register as sellers on Amazon’s e-commerce platform. What’s more, merchants can now initiate their selling journey using just a smartphone.

This new system not only pre-fills the necessary information for registration but also suggests the best options for sellers. It incorporates machine learning technology to generate store names and shipping preferences. This ensures a smooth and efficient registration process, with real-time support available to address any concerns or queries.

How does the new process work?
According to Amazon, this new and secure experience allows sellers to create an account by simply using a valid mobile number. Once logged in, sellers only need to enter their GSTIN for business registration.

How does this benefit sellers in Tier-2 and 3 cities?
Currently, 65% of Amazon sellers in India come from Tier-2 and 3 cities. The company expects this proportion to increase. However, many of these sellers face difficulties in completing the registration process due to their limited technological skills.

The revamped registration procedure addresses this challenge by providing assistance at every step. This enables merchants from Tier-2 and 3 cities to begin their selling journey on Amazon within minutes, without complications or obstacles.

How can Amazon benefit sellers?
Amazon India’s marketplace currently has over 1.2 million sellers. The company claims that these sellers benefit from a range of programs, services, and initiatives offered by Amazon. This includes businesses of all sizes, from local stores and traditional weavers to women entrepreneurs, start-ups, and digital entrepreneurs who make their products available on Amazon.

Amazon India also offers various programs specifically designed for local neighborhood stores across different states in India. These programs allow these stores to integrate their offline services and have the opportunity to sell online through Amazon. One such program is called Local Shops on Amazon.

Amit Nanda, Director of Selling Partner Services at Amazon India, expressed excitement about the simplified registration process. He stated, “The first step in starting an online business – that of registering and onboarding – is often the most daunting for small businesses who are new to e-commerce. By simplifying the registration process, we look forward to more Indian entrepreneurs, armed with no more than a mobile device and GSTIN, seizing the opportunity to sell online.”
