How Google Shopping’s Integration of Generative AI Enhances the Shopping Experience

Offline and online shopping experiences are fundamentally different. When we shop offline, we have the opportunity to try on the clothes we want to buy and inquire about available colors from salespeople. However, online shopping lacks these realistic experiences as it is virtual. Fortunately, Google has developed generative AI technology that can bring an offline-like shopping experience to online platforms.

To enhance the online shopping experience, Google has introduced two new features: Virtual try-on and new filters. Virtual try-on utilizes generative AI to showcase real models wearing the clothes. This gives users a more realistic representation of how the clothes will look on them. The new filters, on the other hand, allow users to search for clothes based on various criteria such as type, color, and size.

In order to assist users in making informed decisions about clothing, Google now offers the option to preview clothes on different skin tones and body types. This feature utilizes Google’s generative AI model to simulate how the clothes will fit and appear on diverse models in different poses. Users can choose from a range of sizes, including XXS to 4XL, as well as different skin tones, body shapes, ethnicities, and hair types.

Additionally, Google Shopping has implemented new filters based on machine learning and visual matching algorithms. These filters enable users to refine their search by specifying color, style, and pattern preferences. Google Shopping will then display clothes from various online sources that match the user’s search parameters.

Currently, these new shopping features are available to users in the United States, with select clothing brands and types. Users can try on women’s tops from popular brands such as Anthropologie, Everlane, H&M, and LOFT. By tapping on products with the “Try On” badge in search results, users can select the model that resonates most with them.

Overall, Google’s innovative technology and new features aim to improve the online shopping experience, making it more convenient, realistic, and tailored to individual preferences.
