Final approval: Franchise agreement to expand fiber infrastructure
Council gave final approval to a franchise agreement with Lumos Fiber of South Carolina LLC.
The utility provider plans to install its fiber infrastructure throughout the city, beginning in late summer.
Lumos Fiber has installed its fiber network in Columbia and Lexington and has franchise agreements in Spartanburg and Cowpens. The company also plans to expand its network into Travelers Rest.
Initial approval: Rezoning for new subdivision
Council gave initial approval to rezone 39.44 acres adjacent to the Chestnut Grove subdivision on Kist Road.
The applicant, Seamon, Whiteside & Associates Inc. plans to use the property to develop a new subdivision consisting of 92 to 97 single-family homes.
This item will go before the City Council for final approval May 14.
Initial approval: Updates to the city’s unified development ordinance
Council gave initial approval to amend the city’s unified development ordinance.
If approved, the updates will include:
- Adding a definition for commercial vehicles
- Updating where vehicle sales and rentals are allowed and restricting them to more auto-oriented zoning districts
- Updating allowances for electronic message signs
- Removing landscaping requirements for monument signs
- Adding spacing requirements for plantings
This item will go before the City Council for final approval May 14.
