Google Chrome’s Tab Group to Offer Enhanced Synchronization in the Near Future

Google is developing a new feature in Chrome to enhance account syncing. This feature will give users more control over how tab groups are synced across their devices, resulting in an improved browsing experience. For those unfamiliar, tab groups allow users to efficiently organize and group related tabs together. A colored dot identifies the left-most tab within the group, while a colored underline denotes tabs that belong to the same group. By right-clicking on the dot, users can assign a name to the group.

Tab groups are especially useful for avid browsers who keep several tabs open for reference. The added dot in the tab group saves space on the tab bar, and clicking on the dot expands all the tabs within the group. It’s a convenient feature that streamlines the browsing process.

In the latest version of Chrome Canary, Google has introduced an improved tab sync feature that includes tab groups and other data. However, one limitation is that users cannot currently choose to sync active and inactive tabs separately. According to reports, Google plans to add this feature in the near future, allowing users to sync tabs separately.

To access the new tab group sync feature in Chrome, you must download the Canary build of the browser from the official Google Chrome website. Once downloaded and installed, your account will be linked, and all your data, including tab groups, will be synced.

Overall, these enhancements to Chrome’s tab syncing capabilities are aimed at providing users with a more seamless and customizable browsing experience. By giving users more control over how their tab groups are synced, Google is making it easier for users to organize and manage their open tabs across multiple devices.
