Euphoria Star Angus Cloud Dies at 25

Angus Cloud, renowned for his portrayal of Fezco “Fez” O’Neill in the critically acclaimed series Euphoria, tragically passed away at the young age of 25, as confirmed by his family in a statement to TMZ.

The family’s statement expressed deep sorrow as they bid farewell to an extraordinary individual. They described Cloud as an exceptional artist, a supportive friend, a loving brother, and a cherished son. The statement revealed that Cloud had recently suffered the loss of his father, which had taken a toll on his mental well-being. In his battle with mental health, Cloud was openly vocal, and his family hopes that his untimely passing will serve as a reminder to others that they are not alone in their struggles and should seek support.

The family requested privacy in this difficult time, as they are still processing the devastating loss.

HBO, through the Euphoria Twitter account, also expressed their grief over Cloud’s passing. The statement recognized Cloud’s immense talent and his beloved status within the HBO and Euphoria community. HBO extended their deepest condolences to his loved ones.

While Cloud’s family primarily resides in Ireland, he was born in Oakland, Calif. in 1998. Interestingly, Cloud attended the School of Production Design at Oakland School for the Arts, where he was classmates with his Euphoria co-star Zendaya.

In 2018, Cloud’s path to stardom began unexpectedly when he was approached by a woman who worked for Euphoria’s casting director, Jennifer Venditti, while he was simply walking through the streets of Manhattan. Cloud recalled his initial skepticism, believing it might be a scam. Little did he know, it was his ticket to Euphoria.

Euphoria quickly became a sensation after its debut in 2019, garnering accolades such as an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Cloud’s character, the affable drug dealer Fez, captured the hearts of fans and propelled him to fan-favorite status.

Reflecting on his newfound fame in a 2022 interview with NME, Cloud described the experience as surreal. He humorously remarked that everyone recognized him, finding it peculiar.

Some believed that Cloud’s portrayal of Fez on Euphoria was simply an extension of his own personality, but both Cloud and Venditti dismissed these assumptions in a 2022 profile with Variety. Venditti emphasized that Cloud’s performance was not merely playing himself on camera and commended his talent. She refuted the notion that Cloud’s portrayal was effortless, asserting that casting non-actors can be challenging and that he deserved more recognition.

In addition to Euphoria, Cloud appeared in the 2021 comedy-drama film North Hollywood and has several posthumous releases lined up, including the upcoming drama The Line. Unfortunately, filming for Euphoria Season 3 had not commenced due to ongoing Hollywood strikes.
