‘Escape From Tarkov’ Defends Bold Position Against Unfavorable Data Mining

A streamer was banned from the game Escape From Tarkov for datamining, but was subsequently unbanned after the developer, Battlestate Games, issued a controversial statement denouncing the practice.

According to game director Nikita Buyanov, the streamer LogicalSolutions was banned for sharing information obtained through datamining, which involves players searching through game files for clues about upcoming updates. Buyanov stated, “You shouldn’t share how you datamine and everything. We saw it, so you broke the rules again.”

LogicalSolutions denied sharing any recently datamined information, citing a crack down on datamining by Tarkov. They claimed that the information they shared was “old data” from before the crackdown. However, Buyanov simply responded by calling them a liar.

Following the incident, LogicalSolutions was promptly unbanned, but Battlestate Games provided little communication regarding the situation. On stream, LogicalSolutions expressed gratitude for being unbanned but expressed a desire for better communication from the developer.

Datamining is not unique to the Escape from Tarkov community. Many live service games are datamined by players searching through game files using data tools to uncover hints about upcoming content. This often yields a significant amount of information about upcoming updates and DLC.

LogicalSolutions has been an active dataminer in the Tarkov community in the past. However, Battlestate Games recently announced that they would take action against dataminers. They stated that any accounts involved in datamining or sharing datamined information would be banned, and platforms that allow such sharing would receive warnings and further actions.

Battlestate Games stated that their stance on datamining is intended to protect the majority of their community who want to enjoy the game as intended. However, fans of the game have ridiculed the studio’s position, believing that datamining is not something the studio should be fighting against.

In other news, the game League of Legends is introducing a new game mode as part of the upcoming Soul Fighter event.
