In April, Google introduced a new feature called Enhanced Bitrate videos on iOS for YouTube. This feature aims to enhance the video quality of 1080p videos by improving their bitrate, resulting in crisper and more defined visuals. Initially, this feature was exclusive to iOS, but Google is now planning to expand it to the web.
Windows Latest has discovered that this feature is now available on Windows 11, suggesting that PC users will soon be able to enjoy enhanced bitrate videos on Windows as well. According to reports, Google has recently started testing this feature on Windows 11.
It’s important to note that the regular 1080p quality option will still be available alongside the new enhanced option. Users can choose between both options based on their preferences. However, there’s a catch – this feature is only accessible to YouTube Premium subscribers.
Additionally, the enhanced option is only applicable to 1080p videos. If a video has a 4K resolution available, it won’t have the enhanced option. Similarly, videos with lower resolutions also won’t have the enhanced 1080p option.
Video quality is not solely determined by resolution; bitrates also play a crucial role. While resolution refers to the size of the video canvas, bitrates determine the amount of video data uploaded per second. Higher bitrates result in improved video quality, regardless of the resolution.
