Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink, has taken over Twitter and now announced his latest venture, xAI.
xAI is an artificial intelligence company with a mission to “understand the true nature of the universe”. Elon Musk made this announcement on Twitter, stating the formation of xAI to comprehend reality.

The newly launched xAI website introduces the core team of 12 members, most of whom have experience in prominent AI research labs such as DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, The University of Toronto, and Microsoft Research. Other members include Igor Babuschkin, Manuel Kroiss, Yuhai (Tony) Wu, Christian Szegedy, Jimmy Ba, Toby Pohlen, Ross Nordeen, Kyle Kosic, Greg Yang, Guodong Zhang, and Zihang Dai.
The website explicitly states that xAI is a separate entity from X Corp. However, they will collaboratively work with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to make progress toward their mission.
The launch of xAI follows months of speculation and hints from Elon Musk regarding his involvement in a significant AI project. Earlier, he mentioned his intentions to create TruthGPT, an AI company focused on seeking maximum truth and understanding the universe.
In April, it was reported that Musk had purchased 10,000 GPUs for Twitter, implying his work on a substantial AI initiative. GPUs are vital for training large-scale machine learning models.
xAI is not Musk’s first venture in the AI industry. He was a co-founder of OpenAI but parted ways with the company in 2018 due to disagreements with senior executives.
While the website does not provide specific details about how xAI plans to achieve its mission of understanding the true nature of the universe, interested individuals can join a Twitter Spaces chat on Friday, July 14th, to learn more about the venture.
