Ellie and Joel Face a Cannibalistic Gang in The Last of Us Episode 8 Trailer, Featuring Troy Baker

The highly anticipated trailer for episode 8 of the hit HBO series, The Last of Us, is finally here. In keeping with the show’s thrilling and post-apocalyptic nature, the preview offers a glimpse into the upcoming episode, which features a group of cannibalistic survivors coming to the aid of our beloved protagonists, Ellie and Joel. However, their motives may not be as genuine as they seem.

Titled ‘When We Are in Need,’ episode 8 introduces Troy Baker, the original voice actor for Joel, as James, a senior member of the settlers’ group. Directed by Ali Abbasi, the episode has a runtime of 51 minutes, promising an immersive and captivating narrative. Fans can catch the premiere on March 6 at 8:30am IST on Disney+ Hotstar and March 5 at 9pm ET on HBO Max.

The trailer takes us back to the present, where Joel, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, is struggling to recover from a life-threatening injury. David, the leader of the settler group, played by Scott Shepherd, confronts Ellie, brilliantly portrayed by Bella Ramsey, urging her to join their ranks. Unbeknownst to our protagonists, this seemingly helpful group is hiding a dark secret – their cannibalistic tendencies. Ellie, a character known for her mistrust, instinctively rejects David’s advances, leading to tensions within the group.

Episode 6 left audiences on the edge of their seats as Joel and Ellie embarked on a search for the Fireflies, only to encounter a peculiar group of survivors, resulting in Joel’s injury. It is revealed that these survivors are in fact a part of David’s gang, adding an extra layer of complexity to the storyline.

David realizes the potential Ellie and Joel possess and believes they would be valuable assets to their group. However, Ellie remains skeptical of David’s true intentions and resists his attempts to force her into joining. James, played by Troy Baker, questions David’s decision to bring Ellie aboard, noting that she would only be an additional mouth to feed.

The trailer also showcases a scene where Ellie, now skilled at hunting, shoots down a deer. She offers it to one of the survivors in exchange for medical supplies. This raises the intriguing possibility of Ashley Johnson making an appearance as Anna, Ellie’s biological mother, who was present in the original video game.

In other news, there have been reports suggesting that HBO content, including The Last of Us, Game of Thrones, and Euphoria, will be leaving the Disney+ Hotstar platform in India due to restructuring plans by Disney CEO Bob Iger. Although the destination for HBO content remains unknown, Amazon Prime Video is rumored to be the top contender for securing the streaming rights.

Excitingly, HBO has already announced the renewal of The Last of Us for a second season. Showrunner Craig Mazin hints at the possibility of a split season, considering the complexity and size of the story presented in the polarizing sequel, The Last of Us Part II video game.

Fans can catch new episodes of The Last of Us streaming every Monday on Disney+ Hotstar in India and Sundays at 9pm ET on HBO Max. The first season consists of nine episodes, with seven episodes already released.
