Disappointing news for fans of the critically acclaimed movie Dungeons & Dragons – it appears that hopes for a sequel have been dashed due to Ryan Reynolds’ new movie. According to Deadline, Reynolds and actor/director Kenneth Branagh will star alongside each other in Mayday, an upcoming Apple TV Plus Original film, leaving little room for working on a sequel to the popular tabletop game adaptation.
The duo’s new project is being developed by Skydance, with whom Apple has been collaborating closely lately, and was pitched by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who previously wrote and directed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Unfortunately for fans of the movie, it was already looking unlikely that a sequel would be made due to its disappointing box office performance of just $200 million, despite being made with a budget of $150 million. With the news that the writers and directors are moving onto a new project, it feels like all hope is lost for the continuation of the franchise.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is currently available for digital download on services such as Amazon Prime Video. Perhaps if it performs well in streaming, there could be a chance of the franchise being revived.
