Diablo meets Greek mythology as beloved classic ARPG returns

Titan Quest 2 introduces a captivating sequel to the beloved mythology-inspired ARPG from 2006. Building on the success of the original Titan Quest, which emerged as one of the top games like Diablo post-Diablo 2, the sequel immerses players in the world of ancient Greek mythology with its stunning visuals, intricate character development, expansive multiplayer options, and an abundance of loot. With the upcoming release of Titan Quest 2, gamers can look forward to another compelling alternative to titles like Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2.

Unveiled at the THQ Digital Nordic showcase on August 11, 2023, Titan Quest 2 invites players to join the battle against Nemesis, the Goddess of Retribution. The announcement was accompanied by a breathtaking cinematic trailer that showcases armored warriors traversing the streets of ancient Greece, while fiery spirits descend from the heavens, heralding the arrival of Nemesis.

The original Titan Quest, created by Brian Sullivan, co-founder of Age of Empires, and featuring a script by Randall Wallace, the screenwriter of Braveheart, proved to be a compelling iteration of the Diablo formula. While it did not revolutionize the genre, it provided an enjoyable adventure for fans who had been waiting for a follow-up to Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction and a precursor to the eventual release of Diablo 3.

In 2016, Titan Quest received a special ten-year anniversary edition that combined the base game and its Immortal Throne expansion, along with enhanced multiplayer tools, mod support through Steam Workshop, and additional heroes and bosses. This edition boasts a 91% positive rating on Steam and received three expansion packs, namely Titan Quest Ragnarök, Atlantis, and Eternal Embers, which introduced players to other mythological realms.

Just like its predecessor, Titan Quest 2 offers a versatile character-building system that allows players to combine two masteries of their choice, resulting in a unique hybrid class. This can then be further customized with various skill modifiers, attributes, and abundant loot. Developer Grimlore Games promises a wide range of options for each character class, with every item having a specific function and purpose.

Alongside a plethora of valuable drops, Titan Quest 2 boasts a robust crafting system. According to Grimlore Games, even the most common spear can be upgraded through affix crafting, offering players the opportunity to forge unique, legendary items using the right ingredients.

As someone who discovered the first Titan Quest later on but still found immense enjoyment in its gameplay, I am eagerly anticipating its return. With exciting titles like Diablo 4, Path of Exile 2, and Last Epoch, the action-RPG genre is experiencing a renaissance, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I am particularly excited to witness Titan Quest 2’s gameplay in action, although the screenshots alone already leave a fantastic impression.

Titan Quest 2 is marked as “coming soon” on Steam, but currently lacks a specific release date. In the meantime, you can add it to your wishlist to stay updated. If you are interested in trying its predecessor, Titan Quest Anniversary Edition is currently available on Steam at a discounted price of $4.99 / £4.49, down from its original price of $19.99 / £17.99.
