June’s IGN First is all about Final Fantasy XVI, with Square Enix’s development team sharing details about the game’s powerful and flashy special moves, Eikonic Abilities. Director Hiroshi Takai and Combat Director Ryota Suzuki demonstrate a range of Eikonic Abilities in a commentary video posted below. During an exclusive interview with IGN, the team shared the philosophy behind these Summon-based attacks. Eikons are Final Fantasy XVI’s version of Summons, and as protagonist Clive progresses through the game, he becomes able to use their power through Eikonic Feats and Eikonic Abilities. Each Eikon provides one Eikonic Feat, with multiple Eikonic Abilities to unlock from the Skill Tree. The player must decide which Eikon abilities to use during battle and how to combine them. The new Eikon powers allow for various approaches to defeating an enemy, giving players the freedom to create their own builds. The Combat Director encourages players to try out the game’s combat in training mode, where they can experiment with different Eikon abilities.
