YouTube has made changes to its monetization policies to help smaller creators earn money on their efforts. The eligibility criteria for creators to start earning on YouTube has been lowered, giving them access to fan funding features like channel memberships, Super Chat, and Super Thanks. Creators with 500 subscribers (down from 1,000), three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours in the past year (down from 4,000) or three million Shorts views in the last 90 days (down from 10 million) are eligible to apply for the YouTube Partner Program. These criteria will be initially implemented in Canada, the United States, United Kingdom, Taiwan, and South Korea with other countries to follow over time. Eligible creators will unlock access to fan funding features like Super Stickers and the ability to promote their own products with YouTube Shopping. Existing YPP requirements for revenue sharing and ad revenue still apply, but creators who become eligible for ad revenue won’t have to reapply to the program. In addition, YPP participants in the United States with a minimum of 20,000 subscribers can now participate in the shopping affiliate program. These changes offer smaller creators the opportunity to generate revenue from their dedicated fans and followers.
