Canadian woman pleads for Amazon to stop unwanted deliveries

Anca Nitu’s neighbors must be under the impression that she’s a dedicated Amazon shopper, with packages arriving at her door every day for the past two months. However, Nitu actually hasn’t ordered any of these items.

The majority of the packages, many containing pairs of intricately designed shoes that are not Nitu’s style, come from various locations across North America and are delivered directly to her home in Langley, British Columbia.

Nitu has expressed her distress over the constant influx of Amazon products. She shared with CBC, “I start shaking when I see packages at my door. They keep coming and it just doesn’t end.”

The situation has been made worse by UPS, the shipping firm, which continues to send Nitu invoices for customs charges despite her insistence that she didn’t order the items. Understandably, she refuses to pay.

The Virginia-based Better Business Bureau suggests that sellers or third-party handlers may be using Nitu’s address to offload unwanted products in order to avoid shipping and warehouse fees. This tactic, which has been reported before, is often employed by businesses in countries like China and India.

Sellers who use Amazon facilities are required to cover the costs of picking and packing orders, shipping, handling, and product returns. In some cases, a seller may include a return slip with the order, which shows a private address to allow the customer to send back the item. By using a private address, the seller can avoid Amazon fees for processing the return or save on international shipping costs. It seems that Nitu has simply been unlucky in having her address chosen for returns.

In a statement, Amazon stated that Nitu’s case “has been addressed and corrective action is being taken to stop the packages.” However, Nitu insists that the situation has not been resolved as of this week.

With her home becoming increasingly cluttered with shoes, Nitu has started donating them to charity stores and giving them to her colleagues. Nevertheless, her ultimate wish is for the deliveries to cease.

If you receive a package or item that you didn’t order, Amazon advises reporting it online using the Report Unwanted Package form.
