Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Release Date Set for November 10

The highly anticipated release of this year’s Call of Duty game has finally been revealed, and it’s called Modern Warfare III. Set to hit stores on November 10, publisher Activision has dropped a captivating teaser that showcases a mosaic of familiar characters from the franchise, such as Captain Price and Vladimir Makarov. The teaser features a powerful voiceover that declares, “Never bury your enemies alive,” and mentions “heads of snakes,” possibly alluding to the return of the ultranationalist Russian Makarov, who was the main antagonist in the original MW3 (2011). Sledgehammer Games is leading the development of this sequel, which is part of the Modern Warfare trilogy, providing fans with a fresh take on the series that began back in 2019.

The release date of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 aligns with previous reports from May, which suggested that Activision was planning a reveal in early August, signaling a continuation of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 storyline. Initially, it was announced that there would be no standalone title this year, breaking the annual release cycle. Instead, Activision planned to focus on a “premium expansion” that included a campaign DLC and a classic map pack. However, a change of heart led the company to release Modern Warfare 3 as a full-price game. Although details are scarce in the teaser, a recent tweet from the Call of Duty account indicates that weapons and operators from Modern Warfare 2 will carry over to the sequel.

This announcement is particularly exciting for the multiplayer community, as it means they won’t have to leave behind their unlocked rewards and paid items from the previous installment. This approach mirrors a live-service experience, which was suggested by an Activision spokesperson in 2022, indicating that the game will receive regular updates with new content. Sledgehammer Games, along with additional support from Treyarch and Infinity Ward, previously developed Call of Duty: Vanguard, which was poorly received by fans. Activision rotates between these three studios for its yearly releases, deviating from this pattern last year by pushing back Treyarch’s planned title to 2024.

Reports have also indicated that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have at least two beta weekends for multiplayer testing. The first beta weekend, scheduled to run from October 6–10, will be exclusively for PlayStation users. However, considering Microsoft’s ongoing buyout of Activision for a staggering $69 billion, this exclusive treatment may change. The second beta weekend, expected to occur from October 12–16, will be open to Xbox and PC players. As is tradition, early access to the campaign is expected for pre-order customers and is rumored to launch on November 2. The pricing details for MW3 remain unknown for now, but the franchise will continue to be available on PlayStation for the next 10 years, at the very least.

While the platforms for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 have not been confirmed by Activision, it is expected to be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
