Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Is Still Coming to PS4 and Xbox One, Will Be a ‘Premium’ Standalone Release

Contrary to rumors, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will indeed be available on the previous-generation PS4 and Xbox One consoles. The confusion regarding a last-gen release emerged when TheGamingRevolution, a popular COD content creator, tweeted a picture from the Microsoft store that only displayed the Xbox Series S/X logo. This was an unprecedented move for the franchise, but it makes sense given that studios are gradually optimizing their games for the newer consoles’ hardware. However, the game’s teaser stated that both PlayStation generations would receive a release, so it seemed unfair to Xbox players. Thankfully, it was just an error on the Microsoft store, which has now been corrected to include Xbox One as well.

Currently, the website redirects to the store page of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. Publisher Activision has planned a worldwide reveal for August 17, which will be an in-game event similar to the previous unveiling events of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard within the original Warzone game. Notably, on Steam, Modern Warfare 3 was listed as an add-on instead of a standalone $70 release, contrary to previous reports. The publisher confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 is indeed a premium release and will be priced accordingly at $70 USD.

This packaging approach aligns with an InsiderGaming report that revealed beta codes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 were similar to those of Modern Warfare 2. The central hub will display Call of Duty MW2, MW3, and Warzone on the same menu, enhancing accessibility for players and allowing content carry-over. Furthermore, players can expect MW 3 content to be integrated into the battle-royale Warzone experience, while Call of Duty: Mobile has been updated to include shared progression across all mainline games. More details about this integration will be unveiled closer to Warzone Mobile’s launch.

Prior reports also mentioned that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 would feature at least two beta weekends for multiplayer testing. The first weekend was initially exclusive to PlayStation, scheduled to run from October 6–10. This may change depending on the ongoing bid by Microsoft to acquire Activision for $69 billion. The second beta weekend, allegedly taking place from October 12–16, will be open to Xbox and PC players as well. Additionally, there are plans for campaign early access for pre-order customers.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
